Rawlings Conservatory and Accelerator Space | Baltimore, Maryland | Beth + Max
This past month, The Collective coordinated and photographed Max and Beth’s wedding at The Accelerator Space (and the most emotional First Look you’ve ever seen at The Rawlings Conservatory) in Baltimore Maryland.
I've photographed over 100 hundred weddings - probably close to 200 at this point. And while all are beautiful in their own unique way, there are few that have moved me to write about them in this way. Max and Beth's wedding and everything that makes up their relationship encouraged me to press pause. When you spend time with Max and Beth, you automatically realize that they are something special. But not perfect; the two of them made very clear in their vows that their road to marriage was not an easy one and that they didn't expect the rest of their new life together to be easy either, but instead, worthwhile. At another wedding we shot that same weekend, the Maid of Honor (and one of our past brides) talked about how often her and her husband fail each other in marriage but that it is less about the failures and more about choosing each other despite them. Max and Beth support and respect each other not with a sacrificial spirit but with a joyful, unwavering one - you might think it’s crazy for their wedding photographer to know this but I do. I’ve spent the last year getting to know Max and Beth, like I do most of my couples that allow me into their lives in that way. I know how they met, I know how they fell in love and I even know some of the struggles that the couple has faced and knowing this has allowed me to document their love in the most genuine and authentic way possible. I have even gained some lovely friends, in the process.
But pressing pause on Max and Beth also encouraged me to look inward, in addition to how I interact with, love and document my couples. Photographing and being a part of countless weddings puts a spotlight on what I want and do not for my own life. I've spent many a time behind my lens with tears in my eyes, either longing for or nodding in agreement with what a couple has promised to each other. From the very beginning of my relationship with Max and Beth, they reminded me of what good, strong love is and what it means to be vulnerable with each other and those that they love. I am so grateful to have these beautiful couples to look up to and that they trust me to document and preserve their most precious memories.
