A Spring Time Engagement Photography Session at The National Cathedral and Bishop Gardens in Washington DC

Our spring time calendar is always filled to the brim with our beautiful couples and their engagement photography sessions! It’s such an exciting time for us because it’s when we get to meet our couples in person and really start getting to know them as individuals and as partners. Photographing engagement sessions helps us to anticipate movements and emotions on the wedding day so that we’re able to be more of a fly on the wall instead of having to direct all of the time. The engagement session serves as wonderful practice for our couples, as well, so that they’re able to feel more relaxed on their wedding day. By the time the wedding day arrives, they’re able to focus on what matters most - each other, their families and their friends.

David and Allie decided on a quintessential backdrop for their Washington DC engagement session: The National Cathedral! As May often presents itself, a small rain storm had just passed through. Couples often fear rain - for good reason - but a cloudy day is actually really quite flattering for professional photos! The light is nice and even and our couples aren’t worried about squinting or sweating with the direct sun. It was a *bit* chilly on this day but you’d never know it from how seamlessly and beautifully this couple waltzed through their session! The bride’s dress (The Kourtney from Reformation) was the perfect compliment to the lush and green Bishop’s Garden. David complimented his bride by wearing solids since Allie was dressed in a bold pattern- this balance key to images that are clean, luxurious and elevated.
